Lahore Fort

With a prestigious status of UNESCO World Heritage site, Lahore Fort is an iconic monument of the walled city of Lahore. Also known as Shahi Qila, the fort spreads over 20 hectares. An ensemble of other famous buildings like Badshahi Mosque, Roshnai Gate and Samadhi of Ranjit Singh together with the fort is called Hazuri Bagh. Badshahi Mosque

The magnificent Mughal-era Mosque located west of Lahore Fort is an architectural gem. It’s exterior decorated with red sandstone, and marble inlay leaves you mesmerized. It has a traditional structure of a big central dome and four minarets. Its interior is equally breathtaking with a cornucopia of arches, stucco tracery, and frescoes which never fail to astonish. Badshahi Mosque was the largest mosque in Pakistan until 1986 when Faisal Mosque, the current largest mosque was built. 

 

Faisal Mosque

Located near the capital city of Islamabad, Faisal Mosque is the largest mosque in Pakistan. Built in contemporary Islamic architecture style the mosque has eight sides and resembles a Bedouin tent. Perched at an elevation of Margala hills, the mosque can accommodate 10,000 worshippers. Its four minarets standing tall at 260 feet height are the tallest in South Asia. 

Pakistan Monument

Pakistan Monument is another wonderous monument from Islamabad built in dedication to the unity of Pakistani people. The beautiful structure took inspiration from a blooming flower and is made to resemble it. Built with granite and decorated with murals on the inner side, the structure has four large petals and three smaller ones. Below the petals lie a crescent adorning verses by Pakistan’s founder Mohd. Jinnah and Indian poet Muhammed Iqbal. 

 

Derawar Fort

Located around 130 km south of Bahawalpur, in the desolate Cholistan desert are forty majestic bastions of Derawar fort. The impressive structure rises to 30 meters and has a circumference of 1.5 km. While at this site, you can also pay a visit to the adjacent mosque which is a replica of Moti Mahal of Delhi’s Red Fort. 

 

Wazir Khan Mosque

Wazir Khan Mosque located in Lahore is ornately decorated and is renowned for its intricate Faience tile work. Its interior is entirely decorated with Mughal-era frescos. The mosque is situated west of the Delhi Gate and is a part of the ensemble of buildings including the nearby shahi hammams. This mosque is one of the first examples of four-axis markets a unique feature amongst the mosques worldwide. 

 

Minar-e-Pakistan

Minar-e-Pakistan is a significant monument for Pakistan due to its historical significance. It is here that the All-India Muslim League passed a resolution of an independent homeland which ultimately led to the formation of Pakistan. The monument is built in a progressive gradient of refined stones indicating a humble beginning of freedom struggle through uncut stones to polished marble indicating a successful formation of the state.
