Unquestionably one of the top museums in the French city is Paris' Musée Marmottan-Monet, renowned for its outstanding collection of Claude Monet artwork, including the painting 'Impression, Sunrise,' which served as the inspiration for the entire Impressionism movement. In addition to his collection, which is now on display at the Marmottan Monet Museum, he left at least 500 works of art to other French museums.

Things to do at Musee Marmottan Monet Museum:

  • This museum, housed in a stunning palace on the outskirts of Bois de Boulogne, is a haven for admirers of impressionism. Paintings, sketches, engravings, miniatures, medals, sculptures, furniture, bronzes, and porcelain are just a few of the many different mediums that may be seen in Marmottan's extraordinary collection of First Empire arts and decorations.
  • From the youthful caricatures he drew to the motivational paintings of his gardens at Giverny, you can follow Monet's life here. The collection offers you the unique opportunity to follow the master's career and witness his technical and aesthetic progress right now in a specially built chamber on the museum's lower floor. The collection was assembled thanks to the kindness of Monet's friends and his son, Michel Monet.
  • The Tuileries and Gare Saint-Lazare are two of his favorite Parisian landmarks. Of course, the water lilies, Japanese bridges, and rose alley paintings also inspired Monet to produce colossal works eventually. Additionally, you'll see his Normandy-inspired works, including Trouville Beach, Camille, and the well-known Impression: Sunrise. Another notable feature is a massive, circular room that displays several works from Monet's Nymphéas series (Waterlilies). Numerous seating spaces let you relax and take in the surreal, fictitious, yet remarkably lifelike interaction of light, plants, and water.
  • It also houses a superb collection of works by Berthe Morisot, another Impressionist. One of the unsung heroines of Impressionism is Berthe Morisot. Luckily, you can examine her life through her paintings at the Marmottan Monet Museum. Two portraits of Berthe Morisot's husband (and painter Édouard Manet's brother) and their daughter in a garden are among the staggering eighty-one pieces by Berthe Morisot that are included in the collection. The remaining pieces are oil paintings, watercolors, pastels, drawings, and a few sketchbooks.
  • There's unity in diversity here. Additionally, the museum features pieces by Monet's contemporaries, including Boudin, Corot, Gauguin, Daumier, Morisot, Pissarro, Renoir, and Sisley. Last, the Middle Ages and Ancien Regime section features a small but outstanding collection of illuminated medieval manuscript pages, wood sculptures, paintings, and sculptures from the Renaissance. Highlights include works by European artists Lorenzo Monaco, Girolamo da Cremona, Jean Fouquet, and Jean Colombe. The rooms 'From the Revolutionary Period to the Second Empire' are decorated in traditional French designs and by artists including the portraitists Louis Boilly, Francois-Xavier Fabre, Pierre Antoine Bellangé, and Georges Jacob.
  • Visitors also laud the frequently hosted temporary exhibits in Paris during each season of the arts. Additionally, you can reserve the Musée Marmottan Monet for exclusive gatherings by planning fabulous brunches, dinners, or drinks.
